I have been playing around with the clever DOSBOX, resurrecting some lovely old DOS games I thought I would never get to run again on the latest Windows. Lately I have been experimenting using DOSBOX to run old DOS software to play sound files such as CMFs using the Scream Tracker Ver.3.01 Beta etc. I have put up a few of these files along with another player to download from

The following README1st.txt file is included.

This is a collection of files that will almost certainly no longer run using the latest versions of Windows. Instead you need to download DOSBOX from http://dosbox.sourceforge.net

TRAN.EXE is an old DOS Speech Synthesizer, where you can control the sound duration and  pitch, to match the CPU; but modern CPUs run much too fast now, so hence the need for DOSBOX

TALKER.EXE is a little QuickBasic compiled mouse activated program to help run TRAN.

PLAY.COM is a DOS program that should play the variety of sound files included such as Mod, CMF, VOC , WAV etc.

PLAYRUN2.EXE also compiled with QuickBasic to help select files for PLAY above.

The code for Talker and Playrun2 is also included

I have created the following ZIP files of old DOS Freeware programs that no longer work with modern Windows and need the DOSBOX. If anyone is interested in any I will put the file/s on my site and publicise the Link. As already posted there is already a collection of some MOD/VOC/CMF files needing the DOSBOX  along with a simple player at

Thanks for the interest. I have uploaded all below you can find from:-

http://sionet.mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/QB/QBASIC.htm

SOUNDS  ZIP  all these probably need DOSBOX
FileCovert.    Claims to convert between different Audio Formats
GuitarChords.  Help Learn to play the guitar
MODCMFplayers  Includes Scream Tracker and DMP
MusicScales.   Files of Music Scales sound form Console Speaker
SpkrTones.     Simple console Speaker tones
SynthTones.    Create a variety of  VOC/WAV/MOD tones
DOSBOXsnds.    A collection of MOD,CMF,VOC,WAV files and a player.

      PROCRYON   ZIP
This an old Freeware Windows MIDi/SNG/DRM player, which no longer appears available around the Net. Printouts of Music Score is one of the options. So much for Music copyright, but of course it displays the author's own interpretaion of the original score, with any mutitracking. You may need to use MIDI/DEVICES to set you Sound Board
