According to Mac, giving feedback is: [to] "gush over every post that is an obvious cry for recognition and praise"

"I just know that failure to gush over someone's boast results in being classified as elitist."

I don't even have a comment to all this.
I have to agree with Fling-master, "You sir, are an idiot. " And I'm aware of the grammar error thank you.

I suggest you dont.

The network54 forum is elitist, and most people there only seem to visit so they can flame new people.

There is a discussion going on over there about it. But I doubt it'll make any difference.

C'mon QBASIC.COM has some "elitist"(Mostly people who think they're better than the rest cuz they could code a snake game) but I wouldn't put Mac in their mold. He has done a lot to that forum and putting the link in QBN is not a bad idea.

I don't know what's your beef with each other but the Qbasic.com forum is a nice place, save for people who thinks shadowwolf is spamming(which he isn't.)

Mac: I think the main newbie friendly forum should be on the link, no the new one.

I post both here and on the qbasic.com forum. A lot of the philosopy is the same, particulary regarding the "HELP ME WITH MY HOMEWORK!!!!!" type topics. The only difference that I can see is that Qbnews has a slightly more relaxed attitude, apart from the occasional flame-fest. In fact, I don't see half as many flames on Qbasic.com as on here. Mac has always seemed fair in his comments, and has only banned one person so far, AFAIK.

I don't like Mac very much, but then again, I don't like a lot of people very much. Not like it matters anyways, his life's not gonna break down and he's not gonna be kept up at night just because I think he's a stiff. But I stopped taking qbasic.com seriously years ago and to this day, that's never changed.

By the way Mac, the world, and society, have changed since your youth. People have been long since allowed their freedom from the bonds of superficial social politicking which y'all back then called "manners" and "politeness". Telling random people to fuck off is pretty much the norm these days, especially on forums where there isn't a whole lot anyone can do in return except throw the same words around.

relsoft: Tough call. They link to each other, so there is no big problem either way.

I like to enter the forum via what you call "The new one", namely the index of subforums. It gives a quick look to see if anyone has posted any new FAQs, Programs they are proud of, etc.

My feeling is that a true newbie, if he has found QBasicNews.com, will be satisfied with results in the newbie forum found there. So really it is a link for more senior programmers to look into when nothing else is happening here.

Other true newbies who randomly enter "www.qbasic.com" will, of course, wind up at The QBasic Forum, which is the only reason we all haven't abandoned that forum long ago. So we don't need a link to that forum anywhere else.

IMHO

adosorken, LOL! I am even unliked by people I never heard of. Got to buy a better brand of deodorant!

Well, it may be norm, but I am not. Sorry! But I will say that as much as I am disgusted by the antics of some youth, I pray they keep their minds free of the fanatic religious-right semi-Nazi brainwashing produced by the hate radio stations broadcasting in the USA and thereby save the world.

------- Well, I think this thread should die now. ----------

I am going to unsubscribe. Feel free to beat the dead horse if you want, but I suggest helping newbies instead.

Peace!

Well, being used to The QBasic Forum, I just entered a title line and tried to leave the text blank, but it insisted on something.

I now see the custom here is to ignore the subject line and put all information in the text.

Will comply.

....

Mac

Yes, I understood that you must've followed the old qbasic.com custom =P. Again, i must mention here - zire is just a figment of your imagination. He really doesnt exist :king: So dont mind him =P

I agree with you about the language part. But again you must accept that this is a forum. Many of the "bad" words are automatically censored. But no one can censor "language". How many people do you know who actually use "respectable" language with strangers in real life? So what  I suggest is that please be a little liberal and learn to ignore the "flaws" in others.

Please stop the bashing, I personally respect Mac and his contributions to *this* site. He used to post here regularly, but moreso with old forum.

The Qbasic Forum does an important job by keeping the qbasic dot com forum going as the main site is still the first result in most search engines.

Whilst I don't visit those forums much I do know that these forums have changed a heck of a lot in many ways over the years and often not always for the best or in a way I particularly like.

*nod*.  I really don't see what's wrong with the guy, he's polite and well-intentioned, and it's common courtesy to treat others with the respect they treat you.

Mac... Since you have ad-free HTML space on network54's site, take advantage of it!  There are programs like nvu that let you design a web page like it is a newsletter program or a word document.  If you need graphics, any friend of Wildcard is a friend of mine.  That policy hurt on with qb45, but it still stands Smiley

Personally, I would never suggest buying from them though.  I've only had painful experiences on Network54 forums.  However, I think you are allowed to tweak the forum settings, to get things like a bulleted index (a definate step up over the standard "table" tree).

If you read this...don't take it personally, I can assure you that it's an equal opportunity dislike. Cheesy And how can you not know who I am? Wait...okay nevermind. I guess under this nickname, I'm not so recognizable.

I am still wondering why qbasic.com stuck with network54 all this time. As times change, so does forum software. network54's forum software is antique and has been superceded many times over by commercial and even free scripts.

Age has tempered my writing in qbxl, but I did post the link to qbxl3 to spite you. Tongue QBXL may be toned down from it's first issues, but If I started allowing posts like that, they'd make me turn in my eic badge and give it to someone who didn't. Tongue

Anyway, that ancient post is far in the past.  Today it's a new age; for qbxl, for qb forums all over, and for the basic community.  With the new age brings new opportunity, and to let ancient prejudices and grudges get in the way of the future would be vain and useless.

I'll have to check out the forum to do something other than spam for once. Smiley

(though, nobody did actually entered the competition from that forum...or nearly any other. That was dissapointing. The people who did enter had a grand time and a couple really decent games resulted)
