Petesqbsite.com has been hacked, by the looks of things.  Hopefully he keeps backups.

Probably an exploit in the phpbb version he was using. Something happened to our database at TBN about a week ago which rendered the whole site broken, but we got it fixed. This with Pete's site is quite recent though, as I was there not very long ago tonight.

Yeah, he was still using phpBB 2.0.6 - way out of date. We did warn him to update to 2.0.11 in a thread but he either didn't listen or didn't see the thread.

To Pete Berg:

You know what, I too have just saw your site hacked the way it should NEVER have even done ( ), and here is what happened:

This site is defaced!!!

NeverEverNoSanity WebWorm generation 18

I know some people have seen it recently as well since this happened, but Pete, do you know who could’ve possibly done that pathetic hack?  I mean, the fact that your GREAT QB site with 600+ tutorials, compilations of past QB mags (like QB on Acid, QB Cult Magazine, and a whole slew of others!), downloads, valiant efforts from many of us, and MUCH more has been hacked by somebody makes the whole lot of us including myself very plain angry, you know?  :x !  And since the upcoming fifth issue of QB Express is due out before Christmas time (with a lot of new articles that apparenly got sent by a lot of you wonderful QB45/QB71/FB community), that hack indeed really shocked the very hell out of a lot of us, too.  I mean, let us face it, both your site and your online mag were downright excellent stuff ( d=Cheesy=b !! ), my man Pete, and such a splendid site like yours DID NOT EVEN DESERVE to be hacked in any way at all period, to be point blank real about it, straight from the rather mouth of yours truly.  I am telling the absolute truth here!  ^_- !

You know what, I am taking an absolute stand for you on purpose, my man Pete!!    And, I sure and personally hope your site gets back to the way it originally is supposed to be in the first place.  Also, that hacker who wrote that stupid little piece of bull is gonna pay the rather awful consequences big-time and then worse.  Oh, come on now, you better believe it!  :wtnod:

Like I have said, I (as a person of a true heart and as a game developer of Frantic Journey) am taking my stand for you, my man, all because my heart *sure* goes out to you 100% on what was happening.  In its full all-out entirety.  Wow, I sure plain hope the QB45/QB71/FB community takes this message into such dead-serious note and consideration, too!  ;*) !

Be seeing you again, and I wish you so well on your whole site and QB Express recovery.  For real without end.  =b !

TAKING MY PERSONAL STAND FOR YOU AND THE *ENTIRE* QB45/QB71/FB COMMUNITY,

Wildcard, or any other admin. If you do not patch the board fully to the newest version, at least follow the steps in this thread: http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=240513

Its very short (only one thing to replce), and closes the security hole that seems to be the course of phpBB sites going down.

Was it just his main page that was defaced, or was his whole  website raped or something?

To all of you:

I got some good news for you all on the first four issues of QB Express, so here it comes: I have just discovered on this very afternoon that as I was searching today on Google under "QB Express" deeply, all the issues that were released so far were showing, and (get this!), upon me clicking on the cached version of them, they all actually showed up in their original form (despite Google’s own cache labeling), pics showing and all.  What’s more, the original downloads — including the ones from Rel’s 3D tutes as well — ALL FULLY WORK, too!!!  Just found that out for myself to pass along to you.  Cheesy=b !

You can get to the cached versions of QB Express using these links:

QB Express Issue #1
QB Express Issue #2
QB Express Issue #3
QB Express Issue #4[/list]
I’d do ANYTHING like that to help you all out, just ‘cause I love you and I mean it.  :king: !

See you later.  :bounce:

UPDATE (from today at 1:08pm EST) Upon my later discoveries just now on Google on the all of the downloads from Pete’s QuickBASIC/QBasic Site, you can access the cache versions of the program download pages beginning with these following search results right here.  From there, click “Cached” on one of them.  There, you will then find possible access to the downloads that have ever been presented there since that site reopened from during 2004.  Click on the download links and you are *in*, as they are intact and STILL work!!   !

It's sad that humanity has come to the point where there are people in the world that actually would get kicks from something like that.

I know it's not a reflection of us as a whole, but people like this stick out like a sore thumb.

As a guy who has had his share of hacked sites, I offer you my condolences.

I don't remember the sitename, but there is a website that archives websites for cached viewing.  I think it also archives the files.  I don't know where it is, but google should reveal it.
