Wildcard, no harm putting it up. Some rich old crazy guy might donate a few millions some day Wink. Anyway, I like the idea of ads. But please no popups =).

Yeah, maybe Piptol. He's going to be 101 in a few days... or something.  :wtnod:

Seriously...
I don't mind a couple ads. I don't even care if they are Google's. If Google scans the page for keywords, wouldn't the ad content for a site like this be geared towards programmers? Who knows, they might actually have something that some us will want to buy. If it helps to keep QBNews around, then do it. Wink

Well ok, I invested in a test run of some QBN t-shirts and if I can flog them off for $300 each I might just break even..

The ads don't really bother me, so long as they're simple text. But I probably wouldn't click them either.

Yeah you can sell them at the next QbasicnewsCon

Theres no need to worry about ANY ads appearing on qbasicnews.com, I've organised alternate ways of making my webhosting pay for itself(and it probably doesn't involve random redirections on the forum  :rotfl: ).

wildcard, one way some sites make some extra money is by having a paypal donation link. It's sorta cheesey and tends to give the "I'm a beggar!" look to your site (depends on the site nature, really), but it works for some people.

Perhaps some of the qbasicnews Qmunity could chip in and help with costs? We're looking to sign a new contract at DBS right now and if (when) we win the bid, we'll donate some money to QBN.

If they help paying the bills, add them ASAP. I will just not look at them Cheesy

Just try that they don't @$ up the layout.

I basically have the same feelings as Nathan. If a few ads help to continue financing this great site and forum, then I agree with allowing ads.

i honestly cannot believe what i am reading here.  its just blowing my mind.  do you people really care that much that there are gonna be ads on the main page that i'm sure almost every one of you doesn't even visit anymore?!  thats like saying, "Were gonna put an oil rig in siberia", then having people protest it.

Get over yourselves!!!  they are just advertisements!  they won't kill you!

(the preceeding has been a rant by the Jim)

Ado, paypal doesnt give the "I am a begger" appearance to the site. The owner/maintainers are asking something in return. If the people surfing the site like it then they can donate something they believe the site deserves.
