New project -is anyone interested to be in the team?
« on: September 04, 2004, 08:40:15 AM »

Hello Everyone
I would like to start rather ambitious project for QB(using also C and why not asm), but I'd like to know if there is anyone who would like to team up with me.

What is it about?
It is a GUI for qbasic, but with a litle twist. It would have Bytecode script support for gui. It is not, yetanother aka "fakeos" for qbasic and will not meant to be one, but rather a library, what will allow to use gui controls(such as buttons, menus and etc, but I guess no movable windows -if to be honest who needs them in QB(it only slows things down) Scripting language would allow to create graphical layouts, control some widgets and that would be it(not programming language in programming language, but rather support script lang for qb, what if needed can do very compicated stuff :king: )

Well, first I want to also create sort of Visual Basic for QB -it's a program where you can define where some button is, how big it is, how it looks like and etc. It all will be like M$ Visual Basic -in general idea I mean. After you done with the form program generates a script code for you (what you can modify yourself if you wish so) and once it is ready, compile it. And link to qbasic project.

What is it good for?
Let's imagine you have a cool game, whole UI(user interface) you can easily design in this Visual QB program, and then as needed link those script files to your game/program. Scripts can be started, stopped, paused, switched, what ever you like. So what it will give you? Ability to change UI at any moment you like(like skinning system) even during execution of the game. Or if at one moment you want to change your game UI, you don't need to recompile, mess with qb code, but just create a new UI file and link it with your game. Also it will make qb programs smaller and therefore for coder easier to understand. Of course access to any gui control(button, textbox whatever else it has...) would be possible directly from qbasic too.

A bit more info
For this project I plan to use BoostQB and B4G libraries and for Gfx I guess Future.Library, but also to make a port later to UGL. Why Future.Library first, it's because it is a bit more stable, run's on most PC's and I have no EMS support on my PC(cause of my Stpid chipset). Scripting lang wuld look like C, and have most of the common structures what C have. Why C? couse it's rather easy to parse it, and it would give a bit professional look to the whole thing

Things to do
    Webpage programming
    Turorial and help files
    examples
    Gfx for the library
system programmer(that's me -but more then one can be right?)
    and more...
Finishing word
If anyone now says that I'm just looking for people who would do the job, it's not so. I have idea how to do it all, all I want is someone to help me and annoy me to not stop Cool Well of course consept of the library could change a bit, but I have rather clear view of things I want. Is someone who is willing to support?

Hello again, here's the link http://www.freewebs.com/wizgui/projectvisualqb.htm where you can find a little bit more information about what I'm trying to do.

While I'm sure you'll have lots of fun coding your GUI, your description just made me think: why not just use VBDOS? Tongue

Because it's two diffenent things. This will be graphical and not textmode, it will be able to run scripts(Virtual Machine), while VBDos byitself is incapable of such thing.

I sent you the routines.......
It was experimental for my 3d editor, but ended up being too slow...mostly coz of my redrawing (i redrew the entire screen each loop).....

The routines were built for screen 9, but can be easily redone

The menus aren't that good at all......its a good system, but could be better.....

I sent them to u (check ur e-mails)
