It's not just about game development... they've got a general programming forum, too.

I'm not a fan of Gamedev.net because there's always conflicting views and you get confused who to believe. This is especially apparent during the "My Favorite Language Is Better" fights that start when some unsuspecting newbie asks what language he wants to use. I'm getting off topic, but just be careful, because some people are going tell you to use one command and other people are going to tell you to use another.

I've lurked the forum for a couple months and that's pretty much the vibe I've gotten from it and why I've decided not to join it.

That's a *good* thing, in my opinion. If there's more debate over a particular language, then more information about that language surfaces, and the intelligent newbie can look at what's happening and choose which language suits themselves based on what the language is perceived to be capable of and what the language's users seem to use it for.

This forum's trying to pull itself from death, as it almost entirely contains the senior members at the moment who are still active.

C++ Learning Communities quite an old C++ forum.
