Bluekeyboard Vs Deleter

Hmm, 15 hours after we started what was supposed to be a three hour long venture, we both arrive at the finish line, with two very different games. Whereas I stayed strict to the ways of space invaders and even gave it a retro feel (16x16 sprites!), BlueKeyboard made more of a space fighter game with some very sweet eye candy.
How you choose who wins is your choice, if you think it more important to stay inline with Space Invaders, so be it. If you think the new more appealing techniques are more important, thats cool. So the choice is yours, no matter which one you eventually pick, I hope you enjoy them both as much as we enjoyed making them.

Blue's entry is pretty cool, but Deleter's is just a lousy bmp file.  That's enough for a vote for Blue in my book...


j/k  But Deleter's download is screwed up (or else my WinRAR is...).  I'll wait to vote till I play both.  :lol:

i think its your winrar, i tried downloading and running and it worked for me and it also worked for bluekeyboard.

Note: in both games movement is with the arrow keys, firing is space bar (and in mine, p is pause, and tab is development stats (fps, etc))

I voted for BlueKeyboard's. It was tough, though... I mean, c'mon, they're pretty much completely different games! Hard to compare them. I died just before I killed 'em all in Deleter's, and died at (the seemingly endless) level 5 in TBK's with a score of 39400. Pretty fun game, I was playing it for awhile, died right as a health pickup came my way. =(

I did notice, however, that in the later levels when you get rapid fire, the x3 pickup actually degrades your firepower. By the way, are both these done in FB? They seem to have something of a GameMaker vibe about them. Of course, that could just mean both Deleter and TBK are especially good at doing fancy particles and physics... :wink:

We compete especially hard when it comes to particle effects and eye candy...hence the fact they look as they do.

If I consider that I liked TBK's gameplay more, but the fact that it ran slow on my pc. I'd say i will vote for bluekeyboard.  but good job both of you.  I just wish thebluekeyboard's had a better story like Deleter's.

ok here goes:

GFX: Deleters sprites just look a lot better. Giving the game more life.
Most probably because he's a modeler.

SOUND: Bk's game was the only one with sounds! Although they sound repetative
and remind me of some bad techno mix when you just hold space

FEEL: Deleters game is a REAL clone it actually made me feel like playing space invaders.
BK's game made me feel like playing Asteroids, because of the accel and decell the ship has.

SMOOTHNESS: As I said deleter's game is a REAL clone, it might have been cloned too well
the movement is really choppy, asif my 1337 PC ( cough ) was turned into a 1970 pong machine.
BK's start add a real smooth feel to the scene.

COLLISIONS: Well coldet works, in both games. (A kindof must for games).
Deleters collisions look more realistic.
BK's collision just looks as if the bullet just dissapears on inpact.

Hrmm... guess I won't be able to play Deleter's then.  I'm only getting a 78.7k download from fileanchor, so I'm not sure what's up.  ::

I think in playing blue's that collision detection got turned off somehow.  After running into a ship once, I was then able to just fly all over them.  I could pass through no problem without being hit.

I'll abstain from voting unless I can play Deleter's as well, even with all the PMs telling me to go ahead and vote for a certain entry...  :wink:

I voted for BlueKeyboard's game. There are a few key points as to why:
a) The starfield looks more 3D than Deleter's.
b) I liked the explosion that BlueKeyboard put in.
c) I like the fact that I can see that I am being shot at (as opposed to Deleter's, which just makes me die with no apparent cause).
But Deleter's has some things that are better:
a) It has an (albeit misspelled) storyline. With Bluekeyboards, what the heck am I doing in space? Who's attacking? Etc.
b) I like that I have to visibly work for my health packs, as opposed to BlueKeyboards, where they drop from the sky like a gift from almighty.
c) I like that there are more sprites. But what the heck are those red things, a crossbreed between hawks and t-shirts?

They're both good, though.
