Title: "Have you ever heard of Fileanchor.com?"
Post by: NovaProgramming on July 26, 2006, 03:08:00 PM
So last night I went to Perkins with my brother and his friend where we met two more of our friends who we haven't seen in quite some time.  I found out that Brandon, one of the friends I haven't spoken with in a long time, is getting into web site development and graphic design, and so that's cool.  The conversation continued in it's usual weird way, and then he said something about needing to 'store files on the internet.'

So obviously I was like "Have you ever heard of Fileanchor.com?"  and he's like "Yes, I have been there before, but I haven't tried it out yet.  Why?"  and I was like "!!  You have to!  I know the people that keep it up, they're great.  It's a good service, they'll treat you well."

I thought it was cool :chinese:    Good job BTW Fileanchor Team    <--(That's me bowing)

The same thing that drives a lot of free websites and developers - their own money and kind heart.

Personally I like the idea of advertising because you're basically mooching off of other people's websites to generate revenue for YOUR website, which then in turn the website who's advertising must be advertised on, and thus the circle of internetical life continues.  It's quite beautiful :')

Unfortunately, it's only 50 cent pieces and boy are they hard to pass.

Right now, we don't make too much off advertising.  We're still working on finding the perfect way to offset hosting costs without being too intrusive to the users.  We don't want to be covered with ads (*cough imageshack cough*) but we can't move to our dream server until we have a better way of generating the income.

All in all, most months it comes out of my pocket.

With Google's adsense I'm pretty sure you can prevent some sites from showing up.

Have you ever considered typosquatting?

Never.  I hate that.  Though, I'll know fileanchor is big when people start registering fileachnor.com or fileaanchor.com or something.

haha.  I've made the same on every ad.  It's funny it has been running for 2 months now and no one said anything until now.  I was waiting to see if there would be a backlash about the ad.

If you had instructions for how to build a real vagina, then you might get some backlash.

Dr_dav, there's a simple recipe. Take one man and one woman and one genetic engineer. Stir the man and woman in a seperate mixture, then add the genetic enginner after 24 hours. Engineer the fetus to develop into a girl. Bake for 8-9 months in a womb at medium heat. Allow baked product to sit for 18-21 years.
Serves 1.
No offense to ladies.

That recipe sounds strikingly similar to the kid recipe. Besides, by the time the dish was done, I'd be waaaaay too old to eat it.  :rotfl:

Extremely.   But nonetheless... Fileanchor's random image thingy is also very interesting and in some cases wrong... so I suppose it fits rather nicely

lol... BTW, I was refering to the fact that it is really wrong to genetically create a girl just for sex... sorry... but wrong lol.

I know, but I was citing how some other aspects of the site may be interpreted as "wrong" in a different sense... and by that logic pornography is "wrong" because you're using the woman's body for sex and thats it....? :???:

Owners of fileanchor (forgot who it was, can't be bothered to check), have you tried text-link-ads? It's an ad network that gives you revenue based on a monthly rate, not click-throughs.  You can sign up here http://www.text-link-ads.com/?ref=15721 (http://www.text-link-ads.com/?ref=15721),
(yes, that is my referral code - I make a little money if you sign up through me).  They are pretty good on how they handle stuff, and there are lots of people looking to advertise.  On a good month, I can pull 30 bucks a month, and I have maybe 15 regular readers...

Their affiliate program ain't half bad either.

You basically set how much you think your website is worth (I said mine should be 20 bucks a month per spot), yours might be 50 bucks a month or 100 or whatever, and TLA gives you half of that, and keep the other half.  It's a fair deal.

Try it out sometime.

information

So you don't get paid unless someone purchases a text ad on your site then?  And if they decided to do so, you then get half of the price you set for that ad?

Just clarifying so I know what's up.

Title: "Have you ever heard of Fileanchor.com?"
Post by: aetherfox on August 04, 2006, 05:42:44 AM
Yes, that's basically it.

The little fluff around the sides is that you get put into a directory based on the information you provide and the categories you place yourself into, and then potential advertisers come around and see how many spots you're offering (exclusivity), your Alexa rank (impressions) and your content (applicability).

It's recently gained a -lot- of momentum, partly because it's been featured on major sites like Techcrunch, 9rules etc.

Plus the ads look great...
