Rules:
*Ever polygon has to be made by you, no prefabs (pre-fabricated models)

*5 Day limit, once the poll is set, no more entries can come in
*Image must be under at least 500x400 (800x600 linked off site), and JPG (Since I'm on dial up, and have to make the voting post, etc..)

As we discussed last year, these challenges are supposed to be somethig that everyone can participate in. If they're too complicated, inexperienced people will not play. Just look at the dragon (http://forum.qbasicnews.com/viewtopic.php?t=10285&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=3d+art+challenge&start=0) challenge. Only two entrants.  :(

ok, but come on, what about something like a sword? or a gun? or a futuristic computer? a dragon is a living thing, and by default living things are a lot harder to make. Why can't we do something more creative and *not* alive?

I'm doing another render of mine now. I changed some of the surface properties, added a room, radiosity, etc... But I didn't change the model. This stuff just makes it look more realistic. It probably wont be done rendering for an hour or so though.

a room?!
Its a steering wheel  :o

though i probably spent more time making that logo on mine than the actual model. :P

It's a highly reflective material though. It needs a room or something in there to look right. I put another image in my first post... Look at the difference now. ;)

I soo agree on the *not alive* part :p I hate modeling living things. They come out looking like clay monsters that crawled from the swamp.

Anyhoo, I was going to enter an Enzo wheel, but sometimes I can just never get myself into gear. :(

You just try.... Win or lose, at least you tied.... ;) .. and trying means you learn new things, etc.... Now get off your butt and model something!!  :winkwink:

Btw, nice work Dr_D and Deleter.. ;) .. any more takers?

I tried to learn Blender a few days ago and failed miserably, although only after producing some very nice randomly-placed cubes that I couldn't figure out how to resize. :P

There.  It was my first time using a 3D modelling tool, ever.  ^_^;; So I definitely learned something.  It looks more like a ...Not steering wheel :D  Can I fix it up if I can pull it off before the competition's over? :P

Actually, it's "voilą", but we'll let you get away with "voila".  (But just this once! :P )

I thought he actually meant Viola... How can you post a picture of a "voila"?

We could actually use this for future 3D challenges. Check it out. It sounds easy enough to use for something like this.

You missed the point. Someone said "Viola" once as a misspelling of Voila, and someone else posted a picture of a Viola. twas quite amusing.

Although a search reveals many people have made that mistake...

A few of them being me (http://forum.qbasicnews.com/images/smiles/icon_redface.gif)

This is definately thre funniest though http://forum.qbasicnews.com/viewtopic.php?p=117343#117343

My only problem with WEBCUBE, would be that you couldn't have textures really. The models just wouldn't look as nice. I guess you COULD use it, but I'd rather make a nice render.

Title: 3D Art Challenge XI
Post by: KiZ on June 27, 2006, 12:14:37 PM
me too. A good render can make even a model made by a monkey look fantastic.

 :wow: Wha? I mis-spelled it right? .... Man I do suck.... lmao .. I can't even mis-spell a mis-spell....  :shifty:

btw, nice patch up, pritch... looks a lil less looney toon now....  :winkwink:

Edit: yeah, a good render can make anything look good, cause you can pick an angle that hides any mistake in the body of the model.... hehe.... Plus, I most likely couldn't use WEBCUBE on dialup, thus killing me out of the picture, and I run the picture.. so, that might not go to well.... XD
